Site Description: The site was located on the west coast of Ireland approximately 3 km from a large exposed headland. The area was noted from the chart as a shallower area rising from deep water. The seabed at 33.3 m BCD was bedrock forming an extensive, relatively flat terrace, cut by gullies to 35.8 m BCD. The rock supported red foliose algae with encrusting and erect sponges, Pentapora foliacea and Diazona violacea.

Subsite: Upper circalittoral bedrock with red foliose algae and erect sponges. details

Subsite Description: Upper circalittoral bedrock formed into large blocks cut with deep gullies. The rock supported a sparse red foliose algae particularly Delesseria sanguinea, Drachiella spectabilis and Rhodymenia pseudopalmata. Notable fauna were erect sponges Axinella infundibuliformis and Phakellia ventilabrum with Pentapora foliacea and Diazona violacea frequent. The surface of the rock had many small Aslia lefevrei out of crevices.
