Moross Castle, Moross Channel, Mulroy Bay.


Dive number: 930711/01 Date: 11 July 1993

Site Description: The narrow channel joining the two main water bodies in Mulroy Bay. The site was selected because beds of Limaria had been recorded previously. The channel was approximately 8 to 9 m BCD. Limaria hians was dominant. The brittle star Ophiothrix fragilis was common, so too was the anemone Anthopleura ballii.

Subsite Description: A shallow channel, approximately 9 to 10 m deep with a sandy bottom. The file shell Limaria hians was dominant, and formed large galleries. The spider crab Inachus dorsettensis was heavily encrusted with the sponge Esperiopsis fucorum. The anemones Cereus pedunculatus and Anthopleura ballii were common.
