BioMar survey of South Donegal Bay area, May 1994  

E of Bradoge, Mullaghmore Head, S Donegal Bay.


Dive number: 940521/04 Date: 21 May 1994

Site Description: The site was located to the north-east of a large headland in a large west facing bay. There was low lying limestone bedrock surrounding large pockets of shelly sand. There was a sparse kelp forest with dense red algae on the bedrock. Echinocardium pennatifidum was occasional in the sand.

Subsite: Flat limestone bedrock with sand scour. details

Subsite Description: Low lying limestone bedrock with pockets of coarse shelly sand. The sand had scoured adjacent areas of rock. There was a sparse kelp forest of Laminaria hyperborea. Pink coralline crusts and foliose red algae were abundant.

Subsite: Duned shelly sand with Echinocardium pennatifidum. details

Subsite Description: Large pockets of duned shelly sand surrounded limestone bedrock. The burrowing urchin Echinocardium pennatifidum was occasional.
