Very like P. hymenina (described elsewhere), but differing in the nature of the ascending lobes which become scaly with lobules and crisped. The undersurface has veins, darker brown. It occurs on mossy rocks and the bases of trees, especially near upland rivers.

Key characteristics

• Dark brown veins on the underside and dark rhizinae (lichen roots)
• Ascending lobes become crisped, slowly disintegrating into scaly lobules.
