This is frequently the only species to be found in dense, poorly-lit softwood plantations. It appears that the small, fleshcoloured discs are ephemeral and the lichen may sometimes be present only as a simple, crusty brown coating to the tree.

Key characteristics

• The small, yellow-orange fruits on a scurfy green thallus immediately suggest this species
• Immature Dimerella lutea can sometimes resemble it, but the pale fruit margin is generally thicker when immature.
