Amara similata (Gyllenhal, 1810)

Description: An 8-10mm black Amara with bronze reflections, found in marshy riverbanks and waste ground. Phytophagous.
 

World Distribution: A Eurasian Wide-temperate species (65) found across the whole of Europe to eastern Siberia.
 

Irish Status: Widely distributed but mostly in the south and east.
 

Ecology: Very similar in appearance to A. ovata, but recorded from wetter, riparian habitats and pasture.
