Amara tibialis (Paykull, 1798)

Description: A smallish (4.5-5.5mm) black Amara of dry sandy places with low vegetation such as sand dunes and heath. Phytophagous. Local, southern.
 

World Distribution: A Eurasian Boreo-temperate species (55) recorded from most of Europe east to the Amur in Siberia and into Mongolia.
 

Irish Status: Scattered throughout Ireland especially on coastal sandy sites.
 

Ecology: Confined to well-drained and sunny, sandy or gravelly soils.
