Alnus incana
(Map updated: March 2008)

This is an introduced species of alder planted for shelter in a few places. It is native to northern Europe and the mountains of southern Europe.

The hybrid with the native Alnus glutinosa occurs occasionally e.g. in Muff Glen, Co. Londonderry, where it appears to have been planted.
