(Map updated: March 2008)

The wild cherry, or gean, is a native tree encountered in some old woods such as Rostrevor Oakwood, Co Down, and is frequent also in hedgerows. In addition there are cultivated varieties of foreign origin, selected for large, abundant flowers, which are much planted in gardens, parks and waysides for ornament.
