Rosa stylosa is absent from Northern Ireland although it grows further south in Ireland. However, in at least two areas of Cos Antrim and Down, plants which are hybrids with the common Rosa canina are locally frequent. They can be recognised by having a prominent thick-walled conical top to their hips (a R. stylosa character).
