Summary of site: |
A spoil heap is now all that remains of this mine. Formerly it worked a series of hydrothermal veins containing both galena (lead sulphide, a common lead ore) and sphalerite (zinc sulphide, a common zinc ore). Hydrothermal deposits result from the flow of hot, metal-rich brine solutions through cavities and lines of weakness in rocks, in this case veins. The veins occur in Silurian sediments, the local bedrock. |
