Summary of site: |
Ivy Hole is a 10m deep hole in the Knockmore Limestone that takes the flow of a small stream. It is part of a pair of dolines (large depressions caused by the collapse of caves beneath). Dye testing has demonstrated that the water emerges at Carrickbeg. | To see how Ivy Hole relates to the Reyfad system, read the main account in site record ‘Belmore, Ballintempo & Tullybrack Uplands; Reyfad-Carrickbeg’. | The site is threatened by the dumping of household rubbish - unsightly, unsanitary and a major source of pollution of the underground flow of the area. |
