Site Description

Fault gap N of shoulder of Slieve Gullion, just N of road from Sarah Daly's Bridge to Ballintemple viewpoint; rock face above bog shows liquid/liquid contacts between dolerite and granophyre, with curvilinear net-veining in basic igneous component.
Description:
The lobate and crenulate contact between dolerite of layer 4 above and granophyre below can be traced along the length of the crag.
Detail of dolerite/granophyre contact, obscured by weathering and lichen growth but can be identifed and traced by close inspection.
Curvilinear net-veining is well displayed in the dolerite.
Importance:
This locality is illustrated by Elwell et al (1974) in their classification of net-veining. A good example of a liquid/liquid contact. It overlooks bogland of botanical interest.
