Smooth newt Triturus vulgaris

Single newt egg - click to enlargeTRACKS & SIGNS: Eggs of the smooth newt (photo) may occasionally be seen. These are usually laid singly, often carefully wrapped in leaves of plants in still water. They are about 3mm in diameter.
