Whiskered bat Myotis mystacinus

Woodland path - click to enlargeHABITAT & DIET: The whiskered bat forages in parks, meadows, over flowing water, woodland and gardens. They are often found along woodland paths where they tend to hug the edges, preferring to forage in dense parts such as the tree crowns. Along edge habitats it tends to fly to and fro, turning in wide arcs when it finds a dense patch of insects. They never seem to fly high up in the open air. The whiskered bat catches small insects, such as moths, on the wing and also picks up spiders and small insects directly from foliage.
