Paradiarsia glareosa glareosa (Esper, 1788)

Description: Wingspan 32-38 mm. Forewings usually pale grey but this varies. They are narrower than in similar species with a straight costa with conspicuous black markings between the stigmata. Hindwings are white with darker veining.

Sets:  male upperside

Flight Period: August to mid-September.

Status: Generally common and widely distributed throughout all counties including Rathlin Island.

Ecology: Recorded from woodlands, bogs and heaths. Adults appear sparingly at light, but visit flowers especially Heather Calluna vulgaris and Ragwort Senecio jacobaea. The larvae, overwinter and feed on various grasses from October to May.

World Distribution: Throughout Europe as far north as the Netherlands, south to Spain and Portugal.
