LichenIreland
  • Lepraria sylvicola Orange

There are no records for this species at present.

Collected only from north Kerry and west Donegal, L. sylvicola can be a difficult species to nail. Look for brown patches of hyphae in cracks below the otherwise blue-grey powdery thallus that test K+ purple-red. The species is known to favour the bark of sessile oak in the semi-natural woodlands of the west. Chemical analysis is required for certain identification.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus of blue-white or blue-grey powdery granules <0.2mm diam.
  • Subthalline hyphae K+ purple red; oak woodland trees.
