LichenIreland
  • Lepraria rigidula (de Lesd.) Tønsberg

There are no records for this species at present.

This grey powder lichen lacks the bluish component of other common species of the genus and is composed of large, evenly-sized granules (0.1–0.2mm diam.); it has no medulla and is soft to the touch. Through a lens you will see that each grain has some hyphal threads projecting from it like the antennae of a TV aerial. The thallus is K+ yellow. The species is widespread in Ireland on acid rocks and trees.

Key characteristics

  • Powdery granules relatively large, grey with no hint of blue; medulla lacking
  • Grains with projecting hyphae; K+ dull yellow.
