This species has been recorded from Counties Donegal (west), Londonderry and Down. Since it is similar to L. incana and L. lobificans (both described elsewhere), it is possible the species has been under-recorded in Ireland. The thallus tests K+ yellow, Pd+ orange. L. incana is Pd – and L. lobificans more cottony than this species. It will colonise acid rock, and the bark of plantation conifers where it should be looked for.

Key characteristics

  • Similar to L. incana but Pd+ orange, UV-
  • On siliceous rock and tree bark in conifer plantations.
