This member of the Cladonia coccifera aggregate is a rare upland species of peaty soils. The Irish records emanate from west Donegal. The smooth podetia (testing KC+ yellow) lack corticate granules, but have heavily granular cups with red discs.

• Stalks smooth, vaguely cracked into corticate areoles but not granular, sorediate or squamulose
• Tests KC+ yellow; has granular cups and red discs; peaty uplands.
