The tiny yellow pruinose discs (perithecia) of this species are to be found on the thallus of Lichenomphalia hudsoniana on bare peaty moorlands. Each yellow disc is attached to clusters of green algae each approximately the same size as the disc. Spores are oblong 46 x 1.73mm diam. T. epipolium will also grow on other hosts, but none have been reported from Ireland.

  • Thallus = Lichenomphalia hudsoniana algae; discs hidden within spherical yellow granules which are conspicuous against the host
  • Search the habitats of the host for it.
