This pale-grey, granular, ‘powder-lichen’ grows on siliceous rocks and soils in exposed upland situations. One would need to collect it to be certain of its identity. Since it is almost identical to L. caesioalba there are few clues to go on in the field. It has a KC+ pink reaction which is absent in L. caesioalba but this must be checked using acetone and filter paper rather than spot-tested. Western Ireland; rare elsewhere.

Key characteristics

  • Like L. caesioalba (described elsewhere) in colour and morphology
  • KC+ pink reaction using a solvent and filter paper.
