This Cladonia species is known in Ireland from County Down. Researchers appear to agree that burnt peat can be the best place to look for it. It is curious in its small, grooved single stalk (podetia) terminating in a brown disc that is wider than the stalk itself. The Pd+ red thallus squamules are granular rather than scaly.
