Search for this species on the thalli of Aspicilia calcarea growing on natural limestone outcrops. T. episema is lichenicolous and is entirely restricted to this host. Examination of the spores shows them to be unvaryingly one-septate. It is under-recorded in Ireland, judging from its scattered distribution: Counties Galway, Cork and Offaly.

Key characteristics

  • Lichenicolous lichen growing on Aspicilia calcarea; at classic limestone areas such as the Burren, County Galway
  • Thallus immersed; discs black.
