An inconspicuous but very common lichen. Usually only the dark perithecia, about 0.25mm across, are visible immersed in the shells of limpets and barnacles.

Key characteristics

  • Tiny black perithecia immersed in shells of barnacles and limpets.
  • Exclusively marine.
