This rare rock-inhabiting lichen is known only from County Clare. The grey-brown thallus produces tiny black discs (0.51.1mm diam.) that squeeze up from between the areoles; spores approx. 10m long). Other than a K+ faint yellow medulla reaction, the spot tests are negative; rock: schistose or similar.

Key characteristics

  • A rather small member of the Lecidea tribe; thallus grey-brown, discs emerging from between the areoles
  • Medulla K+ faint yellow.
