Known only from County Fermanagh, L. subaurea is a distinctive lichen of metal rich acid rock. The usual colour of the thallus is bright yellow-green, though it may be paler, with the soredia emanating from the edges of the areoles like in the grey species Lecanora handelii (described elsewhere). The neat thallus tests Pd+ orange.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus bright yellow-green, tidier than the similar L. epanora which, though occurring in identical habitats is scruffier and has negative spot tests
  • Soralia erupting from the edges of the areoles; thallus Pd+ orange.
