This is a lichen of shaded acid bark in damp, humid woodlands. It forms a dull green thallus of finely compacted granules, largely without loose strands of projecting hyphae. Spot tests K+ bright yellow, Pd+ bright yellow. In Ireland, the species is under-recorded but is currently more frequent in the north.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus dull green, diffuse on shaded acid bark; also in deeply shaded humid situations
  • Spot tests: K+ bright yellow, Pd + bright yellow; also on wood.
