The green-brown, warted thallus of this lichen is very like the abundant Irish epiphyte F. lightfootii. F. arboricola differs quite clearly in its habitat type (pine or birch bark rather than the damp bark of willow swamp) and Pd+ rust-red soralia which are pale yellow-green. In Ropalospora viridis the thallus is finer, flour-like. Rare; only seen once: County Donegal.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus green-brown on pine or birch, forming small patches with pale yellow-green soralia
  • Soralia: Pd+ rust-red.
