Close to M. peliocarpa (described elsewhere) but differing in the five- to seven-septate spores 23-34 x 4-6ųm. It is often found intermingled with bryophytes on the mossy bark of sheltered oaks or birch in hilly valley woodlands. Local in Ireland but absent from the south-west.
