Where the mortar of walls is old and crumbly the much contracted, thick and gristly thallus of this poorly understood species should be looked for. The olive green to red-black shiny surface, turned-down edges of the thick lobes, and numerous granular isidia should help to identify it. Discs are rare, but when present are surprisingly plentiful. Under-recorded: Counties Donegal, Antrim and Kerry only.
