This small species forms thin circular crusts of tiny squamules on soft, stony calcareous soils. The convex squamules can be lobed or granular; red-brown concave discs are frequent. In Ireland, it is present in Counties Kerry and Cork and was formerly known from Benbulbin, County Sligo.
