This is a common, mosaic-forming, crustose lichen of young, smooth-barked trees. The thin green-grey crust is peppered with dull black to green-black wine-gum-like fruiting discs and ringed by a black thalline margin resembling a boundary drawn on a map. It is a common pioneer lichen of twigs, bark and wood.

Key characteristics

  • Dull black discs on a green-grey background
  • Thallus ringed by a black border.
