The continuous, granular-warted thallus of this shaded siliceous, coastal rock-loving lichen forms a blue-grey crust on rock. The discs are brown, otherwise the species would be virtually identical to L. gangaleoides in which the discs are black. In Ireland, it is a species of the coast along the south and east, much rarer in the west.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus granular-warted, about the same size on rock as Lecanora gangaleoides but with brown notched discs
  • On coarse-grained siliceous rock.
