The thallus of this rare lichen could be easily mistaken for C. uncialis. In C. zopfii the stalks are darker green in colour, leaning outward and more widely spread. When opened up, the hollow, inner canal is longitudinally streaked. In Ireland, the species has been recorded from a large granite outcrop in north Donegal.

Key characteristics

  • Thallus resembling C. uncialis, but green not yellowish; inner hollow, striped
  • Branches outspreading, leaning over the surrounding soils and mosses.
