Widespread throughout Britain but less common northwards.

Ireland:

Throughout (Johnson & Halbert 1902).

Ecology

Predominantly a tree species.  Taken on sycamore (2), birch(1), hawthorn(1), Sitka spruce(1), oak(1) and willow (3).  One specimen was swept in pasture.  Aphid-feeding.

Variation

None observed apart from variation in the ground colour which ranges from yellowish-brown to dark brown.  This can be a function of the maturity of the chitin of the elytra and teneral (immature) specimens are generally paler.
