Distribution

Britain:

Widespread and common in the southern half of Britain but rarer northwards and rare in Scotland.

Ireland:

Common in the east but rare in the west (Johnson & Halbert 1902). 

Ecology

Often found on agricultural weeds such as field thistle in semi-improved pastureAlso occur swith the 7-spot in legume-dominated, flowery swards.

Variation

Subject to little or no variation.
