Badister sodalis (Duftschmid, 1812)

Description: A 4-5mm long brownish black Badister with yellow elytral markings. Found among damp leaf litter and moss in wet woods. Widespread.
 

World Distribution: A European temperate (or Wide-temperate) species (73) distributed from southern Fennoscandia south and east across Europe to Asia Minor, the Caucasus and Iran.
 

Irish Status: Local and uncommon but found throughout Ireland.
 

Ecology: Recorded from marshy woodland and carr on eutrophic lakeshores or riverbanks. This is the only hygrophilous species of the genus whose range extends to the northern part of Ireland.
