
A perennial species about 6 ins (15 cm) tall with a rosette of round leaves and a spike of white bell-shaped flowers. Common wintergreen (Pyrola minor) is very similar but the style is short and straight in P. minor, longer and curved in P. media.
In heaths, glens and scrub, in all Northern Ireland counties except Armagh. In Co Down it is confined to a few heaths in the very north.
