Juncus gerardii

This native species of rush is very common around the shoreline of Northern Ireland where it grows in saltmarshes or the marshy crevices of coastal rock. It grows in dense patches, is about a foot in height, rather slender and with dark brown shiny egg-shaped fruit capsules.
