A small and individually inconspicuous species of short turf in coastal dry habitats. However, the plants usually grow in large groups, sometimes covering large areas, in which case they colour the area a bright pale blue with their flowers. The best places to see this quite common species are sand dune areas such as Whitepark Bay on the north Antrim coast in mid-May.
