Waste groundThis category covers a wide variety of artificial habitats in which a lot of bare ground becomes available for colonisation by plants. There are many plants, often aliens, which are typically found in such ‘open’ habitats. Many of them are intolerant of competition and eventually die out as the vegetation matures and becomes ‘closed’. Some typical examples are:
