In Cos Londonderry and Antrim the basaltic scarp, the edge of the great basaltic plateau covering much of these counties, runs parallel to the coast and has a flora which is often maritime in character. Away from the coast the typical species associated with these scarps are:
In Co Down, inland cliffs are found in the Mourne range and are composed of granite or Silurian shale. The Mourne cliff flora is generally poor. The following are recorded:
