Orchis mascula

Early purple orchid; Orchis mÔle; Mannsknabenkraut; Giglio-caprino

Distributed over much of Europe, from Ireland to Turkey and from the Mediterranean north to Scandinavia.

Locally common, often abundant, in woodland, scrub, hedgebanks, sea cliffs etc. From sea-level to 2650 metres altitude.
