Ophrys levantina

(Ophrys bornmuelleri var. grandiflora)

Late spider orchid; Morgenlšndische Ragwurz

Anatolia, Rhodes, Cyprus, Levant.

A species of garigue and scrub.
A member of the Ophrys holoserica (O. fuciflora) complex and closely related to O. bornmuelleri. Like O. bornmuelleri it has very small petals no longer than about 2 mm. but otherwise differs in lip shape and markings. There are two large protuberances at the base of the lip.

This species flowers in February and March, about two weeks earlier than Ophrys bornmuelleri.
