Balkans; southern Greece and its islands; Anatolia An ophrys with a shiny horsehoe-shaped speculum on the dark, purplish-black, mostly hairless labellum. Frequent on base-rich soils in stony grassland, old olive groves, open pine woods and garigue. O. gottfriedianais a similar, closely-related species, with a triangular labellum. It is sometimes treated as a subspecies and is confined to mainland Greece and some Ionian islands |
