Across Europe eastwards from England to the Caucasus and into Siberia, and from Italy and the former Yugoslavia northwards into Scandinavia. A beautiful and unmistakeable species with a large bright yellow slipper-like labellum, the other perianth segments being a purplish brown colour. In woodland on limestone; now much reduced in numbers because of past collecting. Legally protected in most European countries. |
