Ireland was covered by glaciers during the last Ice Age which ended about 13,000 years ago. The landscape of Ireland was shaped broadly by these glaciers which eroded bedrock summits and deposited sediment in lowland areas, forming the familiar drumlin landscapes of areas such as County Down.
