There is one record from Ireland. This is supported by a specimen purportedly taken in Dingle in 1849. In Britain adults can be seen between the end of May and mid July along slow well-vegetated stretches of rivers and occasionally large open waters.
KEY IDENTIFICATION FEATURES
- Immature males and females bright orange-brown
- Mature males with blue abdomen with black tip
- Brown patches at base of hindwing in both sexes
