South Down Miscellany (Archaeology & History)
With Brian McElherron
Meet 10.30am at the lay-by beside Narrow Water Castle (NGR J 126 194).
Various types of monuments will be visited, including stone castles, megalithic tombs and old graveyards. If time permits we will end the day at Hanna's Close.
Walking will be over mixed terrain - fields, stony lanes and some stone stairways. Walking distances will be kept to a minimum but will depend on numbers and the availability of parking. Please wear suitable footwear and protect yourself against the elements. For part of the time we will be in open farmland, so dogs must be kept on a lead. Bring a packed lunch, a sense of humour - and good weather!
